I read in a pattern book that it takes approximately 16 hours to knit a pair of socks. Their point was for you not to promise all your relatives a pair of hand-knitted socks for Christmas. Upon being told this piece of information, my analytical spouse stated that if you paid $22.00 for a skein of good sock yarn and charged $10.00/hr for your labor, a pair of hand-knitted socks could theoretically cost $182.00! What normal person could afford them!
