Have a Blessed Weekend...Shalom
I had a chance to meet and hear our Presiding Bishop in October. She is quite remarkable. The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, the twenty-sixth Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church is the first female to hold this position. She was elected at the 75th General Convention on June 18, 2006 and invested at the Washington National Cathedral on November 4, 2006. Her career as an oceanographer preceded her studies for the priesthood, to which she was ordained in 1994. She is 54 years old and holds a B.S. degree in biology from Stanford University (1974), an M.S. (1977) and Ph.D. (1983) in oceanography from Oregon State University, an M.Div. from Church Divinity School of the Pacific (1994) and an honorary D.D. (2001) also from CDSP. She is an excellent speaker and quite practical. The vestments she chose to wear on this day reflect her previous career in oceanography. I thought they were beautiful and show how she incorporates the old with the new. Bravo!
